Ragtime was about making space and reminding myself that our history exists, that I count too. Constantly reassuring myself that the piece can be made richer just by existing and showing up, no matter how big or small. All year, I have had a handful of stories shared with me from people who came to see our shows, and felt seen. I am so grateful for that- thank you. My heart is so full. From beginning to end, this whole year was the most tremendous experience of my life. Happy closing to this precious story and transcendent company, my favorite artists and now life-long friends. We did it all, and we were so lucky. I will be forever changed and will keep this memory in my heart for a lifetime.

Just in time to mark my 11th year in the union, I’m welcoming a new decade of my career by checking off another dream item on my list I have yet to check off- an official Principal contract on Broadway. Up to this point I think I have truly done it all- swinging, dance captaining, original shows, revivals, on Broadway, Off-Broadway, dungeon basement cool off-off-Broadway, the flashy corporates, tours, regional, originating tracks, replacement tracks, even translated/changed lyrics, and so much understudying… I’ve truly learned from THE BEST. I’ve had the highest of highs to balance the very low lows, and in no way have I arrived anywhere just because of this one opportunity, but when I stop and take a moment to reflect… I wouldn’t change a thing. Being in service of this art form and to have dedicated myself to every level of it makes this moment that much more sweeter and peaceful. I am so grateful. When people open that playbill, I hope they remember to consider that long game and enjoy the ride along the way. I think that it’s all worth it in the end:))) ❤️

Words fail to describe how much I am consumed by this company’s brilliance, but my awe is reflected back in realizing my own growth. This place, my heart, the people have become a sanctuary. I am so grateful to the team behind the scenes getting me ready @victoriadavidjohn @tisvoltaire @codyrenard @eeeeeanc, Susie for strapping me in, and the company on and off stage cheering me on. The greatest gift of Ragtime has been finding sisterhood and community in @morgankei- Merely the idea of daring to wear a kimono on opening night was strangely scary, until one day Morgan and I looked at each other mid-rehearsal, and I just knew we had the same thought. She makes everything make sense, the perfect analogy to our complementary friendship. From Off-Broadway we have found solace, comfort, and a safe place in each other, challenged ourselves on passionate thoughts about social justice and nuanced matters on where race/culture/America intersect, championing the other about speaking up in this process, and MOST importantly she makes me belly laughhhhh- wow, we laugh a lot.
Thank you for being the kind of friend I’ve always dreamed of having in the theatre space and beyond. The jaw dropping talent and beauty, wildly curious and thoughtful, the ULTIMATE business woman, and in the meanwhile continually always thinking of how to make the world a better place. This show is dedicated in honor of all the immigrants and the fearless Japanese women who came before me in my own bloodline.
It is a miracle that I stand before my American dream in these clothes.

This was all possible, thanks to my Japanese community here in New York, @morgankei @saomorris @kimononyc @zoaynotzoey @rizatakahashi @minamiyusui -They gave me every bit of strength and courage to make this vision come true.

Ragtime is an impossibly timely show, powered by the most poetically lush book and music with our beloved creators by our side, at the most renown iconic art space in the world, for the first time launching Lear’s divinely female new era as artistic director @lctheater …

This is a piece that will move hearts, imagined by people who deeply care about the world, the art, the people, the community, the honor, and the torch of legacy we carry before and after our existence.

To be in an excellently crafted piece that transcends time and every life we’ve lived since it was created, is extremely special and rare.

a combined mixy dump from my last visit but this summer shinya genki and I took a brief pause and visited Japan together as siblings for the first time in 16 years and saw all our favorite people. I thank the universe I was brought into this world with them. I honestly don’t know how I got so lucky- the sweetest, kindest souls you’ll ever meet. They are literally the besssst siblings ever!!! Can’t wait for my next trip home 🇯🇵

December 3rd is Giving Tuesday!
In our current world and now the upcoming presidency, education and the arts are considered merely an optional waste. These are the first departments to get budget cuts federally, especially not-for-profit companies made to serve our communities. Unfortunately, we are more than ever in a dire position to fund and protect programs that KEEP ART ALIVE. I watch the landscape of the Arts in New York trying to adapt to this quickly shifting economy artistically, commercially, financially… I can’t help but wonder where that has left the artists themselves.

We have to start locally from where our voices are heard. And I’ve never felt that power so deeply than working at @ootbtheatrics. These are incredibly dedicated people wanting to prioritize your safety and voice and they hold a very special place in my heart.
I am so grateful for our production of SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE, translating and performing among hungry creatives who are so respected and believed in for what they contribute to our industry. It was life changing to witness what it’s actually like to do theatre supported by the people who believe in the ground work that makes New York City Theatre!
Please consider donating tomorrow to our beloved theatre community and perhaps you’ll have the chance to see what kind of magic we can make with the uphill climbs that lay ahead.

Red Carpet of “See What I Wanna See”

It is wildly surreal to work on something that chews you out through the bone, only to realize that you have more to chew through the very next day. I challenge our audience to move past understanding, and look to accepting, and only then can you start to see glimmers of the truth. “Believe and be free”, indeed.

I am, and I say this with my entire being, SO grateful for this experience and to connect with every vein of what made this show possible. I will hold this experience close to my heart forever.

A week into this process and I can barely wrap my head around the fact that I’m working with this particular group, much less believe the amount of sheer passion painted through the space of @theatre_154 with flying colors.
Downtown New York Off-Broadway Not-for-Profit theatre is definitely where creativity bubbles. It is frightening, and it takes guts.
Looking forward to seeing you at @ootbtheatrics debut big musical production this fall. What they stand for and what they represent is quite literally out of the box and I think this is where I find hope this season. 🕰️📿
